New and Full Moons in your houses
How to find which of your houses a New Moon or Full Moon falls in, using the Triple Wheel. Set one small intention at the New Moon and write one line at the Full Moon, month after month.
A New Moon or Full Moon happens on the same day for everyone. What differs is where it lands on your chart. Step 3 of the HOSHIDOU Path is about finding which of your houses this month’s New Moon and Full Moon fall in, so you can set the sky against yourself.
Find the dates
The Events tab in the ephemeris lists each month’s New Moon and Full Moon, with date, time, and sign. The upcoming section on the home page also shows the next Full Moon and New Moon with dates.
You can export events to a calendar app. Press Export to calendar to download that month’s events as an .ics file, or use Subscribe to calendar and later months arrive automatically. See Ephemeris for details.
Which of your houses
- Open the Triple Wheel under Basic charts in the sidebar, and pick your birth details
- Set the date to the day of the New Moon (or Full Moon)
- Look at the outer ring, where the current Moon and Sun appear, and see which of your houses they sit in
The Triple Wheel takes a date only and always calculates at 12:00. Check the exact time of the New Moon or Full Moon on the Events tab of the ephemeris, and if the Moon is near a house boundary, look at the neighboring house too. At a Full Moon, look at both the Moon’s house and the house of the Sun opposite it.
At a New Moon, the Sun and Moon are in the same place. The topics of that house are where the month’s theme begins. The 10th house, for example, points to work and your role in society. The 4th points to home and family. The meaning of each house is in Houses.
The Triple Wheel is available on the free Hoshiyomi plan.
A monthly rhythm
One traditional method treats the stretch from New Moon to Full Moon as a single cycle.
- New Moon day: From the topics of the New Moon’s house, pick one small thing to try before the Full Moon, and write it down
- Full Moon day: Write one line about how it went
You don’t need a big goal. Decide small, check in one line, and keep going. This is one way to bring the New Moon and Full Moon into daily life, and you can change it if it doesn’t suit you.
Watch for slow planets drawing near
If you have time, check once a month whether Saturn, or any planet from Uranus to Pluto, is approaching one of your planets. On the Triple Wheel table, open the list of aspects to your birth chart. If one is within 1 degree, note which of your three sentences from Step 1 that planet connects to.
Next step
Once you can lay the Moon and the season’s sky over your chart, Step 4 reads the year as a whole. Go on to Reading your year.
