Arabic Parts
How to turn on and read the Arabic Parts (lots), and the formulas for the four parts.
Arabic Parts (also called lots) are calculated points derived from the positions of other chart factors, not from a physical body. Each part is found by adding and subtracting the longitudes of an angle and two planets, producing a sensitive point that marks a specific theme in the chart. HOSHIDOU supports four parts: the Part of Fortune, Part of Spirit, Part of Eros, and Part of Marriage. The technique is written for people who are studying astrology, so come to it once you are comfortable with the Single Wheel.
How to open them
Each part is turned on individually. Only the Part of Fortune is on from the start.
- Open the gear in the top right of the chart screen (Display settings).
- On the Bodies tab, open Bodies and points and choose the parts under Arabic Parts.
Enabled parts appear in the Arabic Parts table on the Single Wheel’s Tables view. The Part of Fortune as a point on the wheel (a sensitive point) is off from the start. To show it, choose “Part of Fortune” under Sensitive Points on the same tab.

Formulas
Day or night is decided by whether the Sun is above or below the axis that joins the Ascendant (ASC) and the Descendant (DSC). The Part of Fortune and the Part of Spirit swap their formulas between day and night charts. The Part of Eros uses the Part of Spirit, and the Part of Marriage makes no day/night distinction.

The table values switch to the day or night formula by the chart’s sect, so there is nothing to flip by hand. The Part of Fortune mark on the wheel is drawn with the same formula.
How to read them
Treat each part like a sensitive point: note its sign and house, and the planets that rule or aspect it. The Part of Fortune is the most widely used, and its house is often read as an area where well-being and good fortune can gather. The Part of Spirit complements it and points to effort and active pursuit. The Part of Eros and the Part of Marriage are narrower, and cover desire and partnership.
