Onboarding Tour

What the first-run guided tour covers and how to navigate it.

The onboarding tour is a short guided walkthrough that runs the first time you use HOSHIDOU. It points out a few key parts of the interface so you know where the main features live before you start exploring on your own. It is purely informational and can be dismissed at any time.

Onboarding tour

When the tour appears

The tour appears automatically for new users, starting on the Home page. It only runs once - the app remembers your progress, so completing or dismissing the tour means it will not appear again.

What the tour covers

The tour is intentionally short. It starts on the Home page and ends at the birth-data registration screen. Each step highlights one part of the UI with a brief explanation, walking you through:

  • The current-sky chart — the live planetary chart shown on the Home page
  • Today’s key — an at-a-glance summary of the Sun and Moon signs and any retrograde planets
  • Transit alerts — when signed in, the transits currently affecting you
  • Where the guidebook lives — the icon that opens the detailed how-to guide on any page
  • Registering birth data — the screen where you start casting personal charts

Per-page tours

Apart from the first-run walkthrough, every major page has its own short tour. The play button in each page’s header (next to the information icon) replays that page’s tour whenever you want. Unlike the first tour, these can be replayed as often as you like, and replaying one never changes your first-run “completed” state.

Per-page tours are available on screens such as:

  • The chart views — single wheel (natal), triple wheel (transit explorer), synastry, composite, compatibility score, solar return, solar arc, lunar return, harmonic, and draconic. They cover how to read the wheel, the data panel, switching the view, and the controls specific to each chart
  • Astromap — reading the planetary lines on the map, narrowing which planets and line types show, and turning on parans
  • Ephemeris — moving between months, switching between positions and events, and exporting to your calendar
  • Reports — the list, the builder (choosing type, length, and subject), and the detail view (header, contents, and sharing)
  • Announcements — filtering by kind and paging back through older notices
  • Each settings page — the key points of calculation, chart display, points and aspects, reading, report settings, subscription, connected apps, and account

Steps that depend on context — a prompt about a Premium feature, or a note shown only when a birth time is unknown — appear only in that situation.

You can move through the tour with on-screen controls or with the keyboard - use the keyboard to step forward and back, and to close the tour. Each step shows where you are in the sequence so you always know how much is left.

Because the tour is informational, there is nothing to fill in and no wrong choices. Move at your own pace and close it whenever you like.

Accessibility

The tour is built to be comfortable to use:

  • Keyboard navigation - step through and dismiss the tour entirely from the keyboard
  • Reduced motion - if your system requests reduced motion, the tour avoids large animated transitions
  • Progress is remembered - the tour does not repeat once you have seen it
