Start with your Moon sign

How to find your Moon sign and read it as how you feel and what makes you feel safe. Check the sign and house on the Single Wheel, then write down three sentences that ring true.

Your Moon sign is separate from your Sun sign. It’s the sign the Moon was in on the day you were born. Step 1 of the HOSHIDOU Path starts reading your chart from here.

What the Moon sign is

The Moon passes through one sign about every two and a half days. Two people with the same birth date can have different Moon signs, depending on birth time. If you were born on a day the Moon crossed from one sign into the next, your birth time settles it. Without a birth time, HOSHIDOU calculates the Moon at noon and you read that as a provisional position.

In astrology, the Sun stands for what you live for, and the Moon for how you feel and what you need to feel secure. On HOSHIDOU’s Home, the Ascendant card is called “How you come across”, the Sun card “Your core”, and the Moon card “Feelings”.

Find your Moon sign

  1. Save your date of birth under birth details, and add your birth time if you know it
  2. In the sidebar, open the Single Wheel under Basic charts, and pick your birth details
  3. Switch to the table and find the Moon row in the planet table. It shows the sign, the degree, and the house

Tables of planetary positions and houses

The Feelings card on Home also shows the Moon’s sign.

The Single Wheel page explains how to read the chart.

How to read it

Reading only the name of the sign gives you something generic. Work through these in order to read it as your own placement.

  1. Check the Moon’s sign in the reading tooltip
  2. Look at the house the Moon is in. Feelings tend to move around the topics of that house
  3. Look at the aspects touching the Moon. They show which planets take part in how you feel

With readings, you can show the meaning of planets, signs, houses, and aspects right on the chart. With the default setting (Beginner), tooltips show a reading for the sign and the house.

Write three sentences that ring true

From what you read, pick three sentences that match your own experience and write them in a notebook or a notes app. Skip the ones that don’t fit. These three become the starting point when you write your own readings in later steps.

  • Put your Moon next to your Sun and Ascendant (ASC). The three together give a clearer outline of you than the Moon alone
  • Once a year, on your birthday, read them again and rewrite any sentence that no longer fits

Next step

Once you know your Moon sign, go to Step 2. Using void-of-course Moon time builds the habit of checking where the Moon is each morning.
