Arabic Parts

How to enable and read the Arabic Parts (lots), including the sect-aware Part of Fortune formula.

Arabic Parts - also called lots - are calculated points derived from the positions of other chart factors rather than from a physical body. Each part is found by adding and subtracting the longitudes of an angle and two planets, producing a sensitive point that highlights a specific theme in the chart. HOSHIDOU supports four parts: the Part of Fortune, Part of Spirit, Part of Eros, and Part of Marriage.

Arabic Parts are mathematical points, not celestial bodies. They are calculated from the chart's own factors, so an accurate birth time - which fixes the Ascendant - directly affects their positions.

How to access

Each part is enabled individually:

  1. Open Settings → Points & Aspects.
  2. Under Arabic Parts, toggle on the parts you want to display.

Enabled parts appear in the Arabic Parts table below the planet table. The Part of Fortune can also appear as a sensitive point directly on the wheel.

Sect-aware formulas

Several lots reverse their formula depending on whether the chart is a day chart or a night chart. The Part of Fortune is the clearest example:

  • Day chart - Part of Fortune = Ascendant + Moon − Sun
  • Night chart - Part of Fortune = Ascendant + Sun − Moon

The Part of Spirit uses the mirror of this formula and likewise reverses by sect. HOSHIDOU applies the correct day or night formula automatically based on the chart's sect, so you do not need to flip anything manually.

Because these formulas depend on sect, the Part of Fortune for a day birth and a night birth with otherwise identical positions will land in different places. Confirm the chart's sect when interpreting the lots - see Sect.

How to read

Treat each part like a sensitive point: note its sign and house, and the planets that rule or aspect it. The Part of Fortune is the most widely used - its house placement is often read as an area where well-being and good fortune can concentrate. The Part of Spirit complements it, pointing toward effort and active pursuit. The Part of Eros and Part of Marriage focus more narrowly on desire and partnership themes.
