Venus retrograde: six weeks for reviewing what you value

Venus turns retrograde on October 3 and stays that way until November 14, slipping back from Scorpio into Libra along the way. Here is how to use the six weeks.

Venus turns retrograde in Scorpio on October 3 and stays that way until the morning of November 14. That is close to six weeks of apparent backward motion. On October 25, still retrograde, it slips back into Libra. This post is about how to spend that stretch.

What Venus looks after

Venus is tied to relationships, money, and the sense of what you like. Who you want to spend time with, what you are willing to pay for, what strikes you as worth keeping. It covers the most tangible part of ordinary life.

During a retrograde, this territory responds better to a second look at what is already there than to anything freshly begun. The distance that has settled into a long friendship. A membership still charging you every month. The rate you set for your work last year. Things you were satisfied with when you decided them come back into view, and that returning view is why Venus retrograde tends to be described with a flinch.

Read as a forecast (you will reconcile with someone, you will overspend), it turns into a question of whether the prediction lands. Held instead as a period when your own standards become easier to see, it leaves you with something after November 14.

If you want the mechanics of retrograde motion itself, I wrote them up in June for Mercury’s retrograde. It is a question of apparent motion, so the mechanism is the same for Venus.

Three weeks in Scorpio, three weeks in Libra

The retrograde begins at 8.5° Scorpio. Scorpio is the territory that goes in deep: the intensity of one-to-one bonds, money shared with someone else, agreements nobody has said out loud. For the first three weeks or so, attention drifts there. Conversations that surface-level handling never finished have a way of coming back.

On the evening of October 25, Venus backs into Libra. Libra is balance and relationship. Whatever you were thinking through during Libra season in September becomes available again: the talk you postponed, the adjustment you abandoned halfway, the sentence you started and dropped. Venus turns direct at 22.9° Libra, so the second half is spent moving back and forth inside that sign.

The same six weeks, with a different texture on either side of October 25. Knowing where the seam falls keeps the change of air at the end of the month from being confusing.

What the period suits

Anything with “re” in front of it fits the rhythm: reread, revisit, renegotiate, review the terms. You do not need to freeze your calendar because a planet is retrograde. Keeping the habit of one extra pause before you decide is enough, and it saves repair work later.

One more thing. Venus retrograde is not a window for settling accounts with people. The urge to settle usually arrives when feeling is running high. Rather than turning a strong feeling straight into a conclusion, write it down and read it again after November 14. That kind of distance suits this planet.

Mercury and Venus are not the only planets that do this. How the meaning shifts from planet to planet is a separate post, coming on October 26.

Where it happens in your chart

From 8.5° Scorpio to 22.9° Libra. Where that span falls in your natal chart decides which part of life this retrograde is about. Draw your Single Wheel in HOSHIDOU and find which houses Scorpio and Libra occupy. Work, money, or the place where you meet one other person directly. Switch to the Triple Wheel and you can also see how far Venus has walked back so far.
