On June 21, 2026, the Sun reaches the solstice and moves into Cancer on the same day. In the northern hemisphere it is the longest daylight of the year. A day that marks a turn passes unnoticed unless you decide beforehand to notice it, so I want to write about how to meet this one.

The brightest day is also the turn
Light is at its fullest at the solstice, and from that same day the afternoons start shortening again. The brightest point is where the year folds back on itself. That doubleness is what the day feels like to me.
This is not a day for starting something. It suits looking back across the six months behind you and getting your breath ready for the six ahead. Remembering a small thing you decided in January is enough.
The Sun enters Cancer
At the solstice the Sun moves into Cancer, a sign associated with home, with the places where you can put your guard down, and with the feeling that runs between people who are already close.
For about a month afterward the mood tends inward. Tending to your own space, or spending unhurried hours with people you already know, sits better with the season than pushing outward. Cancer season supports that turn back toward the inside and toward what is near at hand.
One thing worth doing on the day
No ritual is needed. Take one pause inside the long light of the 21st and look back. That is the whole practice.
What changed in these six months, what you want to carry forward, what you can set down. In your head or on paper, either works. On a day this full of light, even the parts of yourself you have been avoiding are easier to look at without flinching.
