The Sun enters Scorpio on October 23. The following day, Mercury turns retrograde in Scorpio. This year the doorway into the season opens under a sky that is already turning back on itself.
What Scorpio illuminates
Scorpio is connected with going below the surface. Instead of touching many things lightly, attention narrows to one thing and goes further into it. The parts of a life that are not shown to others, what two people hold jointly, feelings that have not yet been put into words: this is Scorpio’s territory.
If Libra season worked on the visible side of relationship, Scorpio moves into the same relationship from underneath. The change is one of depth rather than subject. I wrote about the previous season in Libra season: noticing where the scales lean.
Scorpio’s traditional ruler is Mars, and modern astrology adds Pluto. Pluto stationed direct on October 16 at 3.1 degrees of Aquarius. Something slow has changed direction: that much is enough to take from it here.
Two retrogrades at the doorway
Mercury turns retrograde on October 24 at 21.0 degrees of Scorpio and stations direct on November 14 at 5.0 degrees. For nearly the whole season, Mercury is walking backward through Scorpio.
Venus has been retrograde in Scorpio since October 3, and on October 25 it backs out of Scorpio and into Libra. So the first thing the Sun meets after entering Scorpio is these two planets moving the other way.
The basics of a retrograde, why it does not call for bracing yourself, and why adding one extra round of checking usually covers it, are in Mercury retrograde and Jupiter entering Leo. How other planets read differently when they turn back is covered in a separate post arriving October 26.
Let what surfaces stay unfinished
Scorpio season digs. This year, a retrograde sits on top of the digging. Something will come up, and the useful discipline is not to make it a conclusion the same day.
The moment an explanation clicks into place is exactly the moment to check it once more before saying it out loud. What becomes visible during a retrograde is usually an intermediate state, and treating an intermediate state as a verdict tends to mean revising it once the planet moves forward again.
Picking up something already half-done fits this month better than opening a new excavation. A book left partway, a message never answered, a conversation that stopped in the middle. When a season of depth meets a sky of review, those are the things that come to hand.
None of this is about secrets being dragged into the open. Noticing quietly what you had been keeping from yourself is already deep enough for Scorpio.
Find Scorpio in your chart
Create a Single Wheel in HOSHIDOU and find the house that Scorpio falls across. That house suggests where the deeper movement of this month is most likely to be felt.
Switching to the Triple Wheel places retrograde Mercury on your own chart, so you can see which part of it Mercury is walking back through between October 24 and November 14. Knowing which room it crosses gives you a fair idea of what will ask to be looked at twice.
